Behind the Scenes: Silly is Where We Live

This post is a part of the Behind the Scenes link up where we show you photos – and tell the real story behind them. A sneak peek behind the scenes, a look past the edges of the photo to the life behind it.

The Story:

The five of us (me, my mom, sister, teenager, and little guy) were on the way to the Hylton Performing Arts center in Manassas for my daughter’s annual dance recital. She had three shows that Saturday – 10 am, 2 pm, and 6 pm). We were headed to the 6 pm show because she was dancing in 5 numbers for that time slot. She had been at Hylton since 9 am! What a soldier. From where I live, there is ALWAYS traffic. By always, I truly do mean always. Morning, noon, and night – no matter what there are more cars on the road than the under-construction lanes can hold.

I am fond of selfies and so I was taking the time in-between movement to snap a few. My plan, of course, was to Instagram upload with the caption “in traffic for my girl!” So, when the little guy, the little silly monster in the backseat, saw that I was snapping away, he started making faces and saying OH! We went through a few takes before we got to this shot which was just too perfect. And that arm that you see across his chest is my mom’s. He was getting a bit rowdy in the back and she was trying to restrain him. It was really a comical scene all happening right there in my backseat.

Silly is Where We Live

I would love to be able to tell you that this was a one-time thing. That we don’t act this silly on the regular. That you won’t find us getting cray-cray while moving at a snail’s pace down route 50; snapping pictures and getting a little out of control (only when we’re not moving of course ;-)). However, this is us. We laugh, we joke, we get silly, and we have a good time. We spend as many of the minutes we possibly can being fun as a family; and making lasting memories along the way. I chose this picture for today’s behind the scenes because of my boy. The other day he asked me “momma, remember that picture of me when I was making the funny face when we went to Madi’s dance show?”

I want to hear from you!

Do you and the family like to get silly? What are some of your favorite silly moments? Please leave me a comment below and let’s have a discussion.

  1. I guess trying to raise a near-perfect family means you have to be fun and spontaneous sometimes. I don’t prefer the word “silly” I prefer the word “fun”.

  2. My family and I are silly, it makes for a better day. We never take anything too serious and just enjoy the happy silly times.

  3. It’s good to have those moments when you can joke and play around. I hope your feeling better now by the way.
