10 Healthy Lifestyle Mindset Shifts For Busy Moms

I have a long history of resistance when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. It’s not that I don’t know how important it is. Or that I don’t want to be healthy. It’s just… cake. cookies. candy. Sooo yummy. I just don’t want to give up the things that bring me the most joy.

I’ve found over the years that it doesn’t take as much as I thought to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In as little as 10 minutes a day you can make giant leaps towards being healthier. And, although you must follow through with certain behaviors when you decide to live a healthier lifestyle, as with most things in life the root of successfully making this shift rests inside your mind.

What you think and what you believe will determine how well you’ll follow through and apply the paradigm of a healthy lifestyle to your busy mom days.

And while I still find myself making excuses from time to time, I’ve made living healthier a priority for me… and for my family. It’s not easy, but it can be done – us busy moms can be healthier, and set great examples of healthy living for our children.

Here are 10 healthy lifestyle mindset shifts for busy moms:

1. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by recognizing your prior life successes.

Take some time to reflect on what you’ve been successful at in the past. Then, use those prior life successes to ignite your passion to live a healthier lifestyle.

* Maybe you’re proud of the fact you worked yourself through college.
* Perhaps you’re known as the co-worker to go to when seeking work knowledge.
* Maybe you’re a single mom who’s making it happen all on her own.
* You can use these past successes to help motivate you in the present!

2. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by considering what’s good and positive about your life right now.

Perhaps you live in a lovely apartment located just where you want to be. Maybe you’re in a great relationship and you’re optimistic about how it’s progressing.

* When you embrace the enrichment of your life, you’ll be more motivated to strive for good health.

3. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by thinking about the connections between a healthy lifestyle and a happy life.

For example, reflect on how great you feel physically and emotionally when you eat a good breakfast. Also, take notice of how well you can relax and sleep when you skip that heavy snack in the evening.

* When you recognize the intimate relationship between your daily lifestyle choices and your emotions, you’ll be more focused on taking steps to live well.

4. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by renewing your commitment to your own health each day.

Determine what you really want for yourself and your future.

* What kind of lifestyle do you desire? A life where you sit in front of the television all evening and most weekends or one where you’re active, trying new physical activities all the time, and discovering adventure?

5. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by making it a personal goal to become physically and emotionally stronger.

When you have physical strength, emotional strength isn’t far behind.

* Vow to strengthen your core and get it into tip-top shape.
* Tap into your courage to follow your path to a healthy lifestyle.

6. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by realizing that you can eat the flavors and foods you want in moderation.

Use positive, optimistic thinking regarding nutrition. Avoid taking the approach that you must deny yourself of the tastes you love.

* Instead, say that there’s nothing you can’t have as long as you limit the portions. And then remind yourself of all the healthy good food you can have like juicy fruits, savory vegetables, and high protein snacks.

7. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by taking it one day at a time.

Living your life one day at a time keeps things simple. Say to yourself, “Just for today, I will eat fresh and healthy foods and I will exercise.” Recognize that although tomorrow is another day, for now, you’ll stay on the path you’ve chosen for increased vigor and vitality.

8. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by remainging emotionally connected with yourself – live life consciously.

When you live life consciously, you recognize the power you hold in every decision. Pull from your energy to make positive choices from that power.

* You’ll likely experience feelings of exhilaration and conscientiousness in your efforts!

9. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by having faith and confidence in yourself.

Get in touch with your self-confidence to take a clearer path toward vitality and longevity. Ponder these aspects of you. Re-discover your fearlessness.

10. Get into the healthy lifestyle mindset by being consistent.

The only way to create healthier habits is to consistently make the choice to frame your mindset, take action, and follow through. This is the most important part because (as with everything in life) without consistency, you won’t see results.

When you apply these strategies, you’ll experience the sweet joy that comes with living a healthy lifestyle. Go ahead – you know you can do it!

  3. These are great tips. The truth is the mind is the hardest thing to overcome. The changes themselves actually make you feel better than unhealthier options! Once you switch you are more disappointed about not starting earlier!

  4. I think the hardest part is starting a healthy regiment, but once you get past the beginning point… it gets easier. It becomes habitual.

  5. These are some great tips. I have been trying to eat healthier and lose some weight since the first of the year. I have lost ten pounds and my blood work came back so much better. I will remind me of these things frequently so I can continue to move forward. Thank you so much for sharing

  6. I’ve never associated a healthy mindset with helping me lead a healthier lifestyle, I’ve only thought of it as the result. It’s a great way to look at things. I really have to try harder on the one day at a time mindset because if I look at the big picture and work ahead of me, especially with exercise, I’ll get overwhelmed and discouraged. Thank you for the inspirational and very helpful advice.

  7. What an awesome post, I agree with you completely. I like to have small victories and accomplishments leading to a bigger goal.

  8. Thank you for this post. Sometimes I need a reminder to slow down, there is time to be healthy and positive. As a single mom with a busy, busy sports child I am ALWAYS on the go. But I rarely stop to think about what I’m eating, what I should be doing differently to provide a more healthy life for my son and I. Well he gets all of the protein and vitamins and fruits and veggies he needs but sometimes it is AFTER practice, and this mom cleans AFTER practice!

  9. I keep saying I am going to do this and put it off. Your article really inspired me. Thank you so much for sharing

  10. These are great tips and ideas for getting into that healthy lifestyle. Like you, I want to be healthy, but I too, also love sugar and carbs and caffeine and other deliciousness. I know that I will have to make a commitment some day and just do it!

  11. Thank you for the tips! I’m trying to eat healthy and I’m sure that those tips are going to help me stay motivated.

  12. I’m terrible with eating healthy – I think soon I’m going to have to invest in a juicer so I can drink my greens. Because man… greens are so hard to eat. I can’t stand most of them, and I don’t want to eat salads every single day either. Guess like you said… one day at a time. Maybe one day I’ll learn to like those leafy greens 😉

  13. I’m pinning this to my HEALTHY board – we all need encouragement and fresh ideas to get and stay healthy. I love your candor – because I love me some cookies and cakes and candy too! I’m really intrigued by this Health Fair that Walmart if hosting. Taking it one day at a time is probably the tip I needed to hear the most because when the occasional slip ups occur I know we don’t benefit from beating ourselves up over it. Every single day is a chance to commit to switching that mindset – thank you for these helpful reminders!

  14. These are great tips. I have been slowly starting to eat healthier and I usually make foods a head of time. I recently have been making some easy healthy foods and keeping them stored for those days when I need a quick meal.

  15. I recently found out my cholesterol was 220. My doctor isn’t concerned as my HDL level is 98. However, I’ve made some changes to my diet as I know I eat too many dessert type foods and don’t exercise consistently. I like your idea of taking things one day at a time as it can get a little overwhelming to worry about weeks or months from now.

  16. These are great tips to get all of u into a positive mindset that we can do it! Our health is the most important thing and we need to take better care of ourselves. Trust me I am lacking in the exercise area, diet is good but I hardly get out and get moving anymore. Thanks for the inspiration!

  17. I’m not a mom busy or otherwise, but these tips pretty much sum up my approach to living a healthy lifestyle. It’s about consistency, motivation, and moderation. I neither want to spend my life in front of the TV, nor do I constantly want to try new physical activities, but I do give equal attention to relaxation time, and fitness. It must be working because I’ve maintained my 45 pound weight loss for over 15 years and people generally guess I’m younger than my age.

  18. I need to commit to being healthy and moving each day even if it’s just walking up and down my hallway for 30 minutes thank you for the reminder and I will start to do that. Maybe listen to a podcast or something while doing it.

  19. I agree that a positive mindset is essential to achieving a healthy lifestyle! I try to live a healthy lifestyle by eating well and exercising whenever I can. I will definitely check out the Walmart health fair- thanks for letting us know!

  20. Getting into a health mindset is the start to anything great and transformational. Making healthy food decisions and responsible life choices is part of living our best life. This is such a great post with so many wonderful and applicable tips!

  21. I’m a single mom with a full time job so I’m always on the go. A ton of the time I just feel exhausted, I’ll try these tips out and see if they help!
