I love supporting for-purpose organizations that exist to make a difference in women’s lives. So when I heard about Runway Moms for a Cause, I was delighted to help spread the word about this awesome event.
“Runway Moms for a Cause” (RMFC) is a fashion fundraising event. Labeled a visual fashion statement for Global Goodwill, RMFC is a runway show for philanthropists to take a stance on an often overlooked issue, and lend a helping hand towards a solution. The event will be hosted by Paul Wharton of CW Television.
The third annual, black tie, event will focus on “Power Moms” raising funds for the local non-profit organization called Tigerlily Foundation, founded by Maimah Karmo while she was in chemotherapy treatment, after being diagnosed with breast cancer at 32 years old, as a single mother, the Foundation has grown to offer services and education to young women and families nation-wide.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Maimah and hearing her story through her TedEx Women talk a couple of years ago. She’s one of the most inspiring women I’ve ever met and I was absolutely amazed at all that she’s accomplished despite the obstacles life’s thrown in her path. Knowing that this year’s event will be supporting the important work of her foundation, I was certainly all in.
About Tigerlily Foundation…
Tigerlily Foundation’s programmatic goals are 1) to educate young women about breast health and encourage healthy lifestyle; 2) to end isolation among young adult breast cancer survivors; 3) to improve quality of life for young survivors; 4) to provide practical hands-on services and support during treatment; 5) to create self-advocates; and 6) to decrease disparities regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion or culture– we want to help them get closer to their goals as they continue to educate, empower, advocate for and provide hands-on support to young women between the ages of 15-40 – before, during and after breast cancer.
As part of 2015’s Mother’s Day Weekend celebrations, The 3rd annual RMFC fundraiser celebration, created by L~Shandi designer Lara Akinsanya, will take place at The Westin Crystal City located at 1800 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Arlington, VA from 7:00 – 10:00 pm on Friday, May 8, 2015.
Twenty of the area’s philanthropic “Power Moms” have been invited to participate in this initiative, and will grace the runway, adorned in one of- a- kind pieces by L~Shandi Designs and a collaborating designer – Studio D’Maxsi. The runway looks will be coupled with jewelry designs by Evelyn Brooks Designs.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception with a live band. In addition to the runway show, there will also be raffle drawings and special performances throughout the evening.

I’ll be attending this year’s event as media and I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t get many opportunities to truly play dress up so this will be a lot of fun. *cheesy face*
I’ll also be watching a few of my bloggy friends strut their stuff on the runway, check them out: Maria – Very Busy Mamá blog, Angelica- Clarendon Moms, and Christine – Moms’N Charge. I can’t wait to see these ladies doing their thing for such a great cause.
I hope to see you there!
