Have You Allowed Time to Keep You From Your Dream?

Can you believe how fast time goes by? I want you to take a journey with me. Try to imagine what you were doing 10 years ago today. Think about your life and the state you were in at that time. Can you remember? Do you recall any important events? Do you know what your dreams were at that time?

For me, it was the dream of a better future for myself and my children. The dream of going to college and moving forward in my career. After the birth of my now 10-year-old daughter, I had an epiphany about my life. Becoming a mother as a young adult, rather than the teenager I was when I had my son, was a very different experience. For the first time in my life, I thought about the future and what I would be able to provide for my children. I thought about my current situation and decided that I wanted something better; I wanted something more. I had always dreamed of going back to school; but self-doubt, negative thoughts, and the daunting commitment of time prevented me from taking steps towards that goal.

In that moment, 10 years ago, I developed my plan of action. I put my dreams on paper and I set the wheels in motion towards a brighter future. I enrolled in college courses and started on my path of self-development. It was far from an easy path, but it was a path worth taking. It was not a quick fix, but I refused to let time intimidate me. I achieved my goal – earning my Bachelor Degree and Master of Business Administration – and I have furthered my career, started a business, and followed my passion for writing; all because I had to courage to take that first step. Because I did not let time keep me from my dream, the life I once thought was out of reach is now a reality for my family.

So, what I want to say to you is this: don’t ever let the amount of time it will take to reach your dreams prevent you from ever trying. Whether you dream of earning a college degree, pursuing a hobby, starting a business, or making a change in your living situation; you can create the life you want. When you look back in 10 years, you will be glad that you pushed past your fears, replaced negative thoughts with positive affirmations, and erased all doubts; to hold your head high in honor of achieving your dreams.

I want to hear from you!
