This post is a part of the Behind the Scenes link up where we show you photos – and tell the real story behind them. A sneak peek behind the scenes, a look past the edges of the photo to the life behind it.

The Story:

This photo was a selfie I took while I was looking out the window of our room at Lowe’s Miami Beach Hotel. It was September 2009, Labor Day weekend, and my best friend and I had just arrived. I was so excited to finally be in Miami – see, she had been there several times as she and another group of friends would travel to Miami annually for Memorial Day weekend, but this was my first time. One of our other friends was supposed to join us on this trip, which was for her birthday weekend, but she had a last minute emergency and wasn’t able to come.

I felt a little guilty for continuing on to the trip; but the money was already spent so I didn’t want it to go to waste. When we arrived in Miami I was so happy I went. Once we checked into the hotel I was in amazement; it was so beautiful and I felt like some sort of celebrity with all the red carpet treatment. Once we got to our room, which was on a high floor, the first thing I wanted to do was see the view. I wanted to look at all the buildings, palm trees, and watch the people scurrying around. I was so happy to simply be there.

Life is Beautiful

As I looked out the window I remember thinking about how beautiful life is. How beautiful we all are as people, and how much we take for granted in every moment that we walk this earth. In that moment I was grateful. Grateful that I was able to make it to Miami, that I was able to get to the hotel, that I was able to look out the window, and that I was alive to enjoy another day of this beautiful life. When I look at this picture I am reminded that I need to remember this today, and every day, that life is beautiful – and to be grateful for every moment.

I want to hear from you!
