5 Self-Care Activities to Help You Love Yourself More

Love yourself more. Sounds so simple, right?

But you and I know how hard it can be to do this one (very big) thing.

Self-care is about taking proper care of yourself and treating yourself like someone you love. You know, the same way you treat your kids, significant other, parents, friends, family. You should also be someone that you nurture. Your needs are important and deserve to be met.

I’ve talked with so many busy women who share the same challenge with loving themselves. We spend so much of our time and energy loving and taking care of others but when it comes to giving ourselves that same love and care there seems to be a block.

If you find that loving yourself more is a struggle, practicing self-care can help you remember that you’re important, too. And you are worthy of your love. Read on for some ideas for self-care activities that can help you love yourself more.

Here are 5 Self-Care activities to help you love yourself more

1. Give yourself unconditional love.

Practice non-judgemental love for yourself. When you’ve made a mistake or failed to meet a goal or disappointed yourself in any way, don’t beat up on yourself. Don’t make that a reason to be negative towards yourself.

One of my favorite mantras (that I picked up from Rachel Macy Stafford) is “Only Love Today.” Whenever I feel myself going to a dark place instead of a loving one, I repeat that mantra to myself; only love today, only love today, only love today. It’s a simple practice but it has helped me to create a habit of giving myself the unconditional love I know I deserve.

2. Allow yourself to enjoy the moment.

When we’re caught up in all of the busyness of each day, it’s easy to forget to just enjoy the moment. Allowing yourself to slow down, take a deep breath, and enjoy the moment is something you can do anytime, anywhere. It’s a quick way to reconnect and tune in. To remind yourself of all the things you love about life, and yourself.

Put the phone down, take a walk outside and get a little sun, read a good book, fix yourself a drink (lemonade counts!). Just take the time to enjoy the moment and be happy.

3. Make a list of all your best qualities.

Get a pen and paper and write down your strengths, skills, talents, and positive personality traits. You don’t have to feel like you’re being conceited – there’s nothing wrong with exploring all the things that are great about yourself. We spend enough time dwelling on the negative. So let this be a way for you to remind yourself of all that you love about you.

Bonus: File away the compliments you receive. Start a file on your phone, or in your notebook, and whenever you get a compliment write it down. When you aren’t feeling the self-love, look through your list to remind yourself of how wonderful (and loveable) you are. you can also file away any compliments you receive.

4. Explore your passions.

Loving yourself means exploring your true passions. You are not meant to live just doing whatever it takes to survive. You are meant to be happy. You are meant to chase your dreams. The thought of exploring your passions can be very scary. But don’t allow the fear to hold you back.

Exploring your passions is a great way to practice more self-love and genuine care for yourself. But remember that loving yourself means accepting your successes and your failures. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just keep learning and growing along the way.

5. Write a letter to your future self.

This has been one of my favorite practices over the last ten years or so. When you write a letter to your future self, it puts your mind into a self-loving mode. A state of being kind to yourself. It causes you to reflect on what you love about yourself.

Reflect on the feelings associated with the wishes you have for your future self. Think about the traits you’ll exhibit when you have the life you desire. Now bring those traits into your present and write from that place of self-love.

Imagine how you’ll feel when you read the letter you’ve written in one year, or six months, whenever you choose to open it. This is when you should be proud of the steps you’ve taken so far in your life.

What you do now will shape your future, so you might as well approach today with love and kindness towards yourself!
