What You’ve Got to Know About You

What do you know about you? More importantly, do you know the one thing that you absolutely must know about yourself?

What Do You Know About You?

In a conversation with my six-year-old the other day he asked me where we would be going for our family vacation this year. He loves cold weather – specifically the snow – and after watching a show on TV he started going on and on about skiing; he thought that would be a majorly cool vacation for us to take. I immediately scoffed at the idea {me and cold are the opposite of friends} and wrote it off as “never gonna happen.” The look on his face, his body language, and how hurt he was that I didn’t even consider a cold weather vacation almost brought tears to my eyes.

I hate the cold, but he loves it. Is it fair that he not be able to experience something he loves so much just because I prefer to be warm?

Your preferences. What you like, what you don’t like. What you gravitate towards. What you stay away from. Knowing your preferences is a key part of being able to control your actions and how you react in situations.

Knowing your preferences also has an impact to how you manage your personal life – relationships with family, friends, significant others, children, colleagues. You make decisions based on your preferences and if you are not fully aware of them, you may not be able to curb a tendency to control or manipulate situations to suite your personal bias.

I want to hear from you!

Are you fully aware of your preferences and how they shape your actions? Please leave me a comment below and let’s have a discussion.

  1. I did not know who I really was for a long time. For the last several years I have been working on this with God as my guide. Thank you so much for sharing this great article

  2. This is a good suggestion, one that I don’t think most of us think about. I was in an abusive marriage for 25 years and after I finally left I needed to dig deep and find the real me. I am still working on it. Thank you for sharing

  3. I like both coffee and tea. I am very uncomfortable talking to people except for online or people that I talk to at a store that wait on me. I hate cold and extreme heat, but would rather be hot than cold. I am not into most of the things other girls are into like sparkly vampires and the like. My favorite color is purple and my fave flower is purple wisteria. I like fall the best. I seem to notice people that are being manipulative before others do. I have learned if you feel something isn’t on the up and up then you should go with your first instinct as it is usually right.

  4. I’m a tea drinkers for SURE! I’m a Fall kind of gal and I function best with scheduled time.

Funny you mentioned this I planned a winter vacation yesterday morning. I didn’t focus on the cold weather but the fun activities that I can’t wait to do with the family. The memories we will make and the laughter we will share.
